Well Folks, by the time you are reading this it is most likely to be the year 2020. It was hard for me years ago to think of a year not starting off with nineteen and something or other. That time has long since passed and now we will have to get used to saying a year that to me sounds like something from some vintage science fiction. But while my head spins with the passing of time I take great comfort in the fact that the one we follow is the Ancient of Days. Our mighty God is eternal- always has been and always will be. He is changeless and the passing of years has no effect on His power. They do on us, but they don’t on Him.
I encourage us all to choose to focus on those things that are changeless, not on the things that are constantly changing. Which leads me to a question- will you take time for reading God’s true and timeless word this New Year? While any bible reading is better than no bible reading I would like to suggest that you consider one of two paths. Either plan to read through the Bible this year (I did in 2019 and plan to in 2020 as well), or consider doing the “Jesus Journey”. That is a read through of the New Testament one chapter a day each weekday of the year (260 of them). You could choose to read straight through the New Testament or you can pick up one of my Bible reading guides that has us moving around a little instead of reading 4 Gospels (accounts of Jesus’ earthly life) back to back. They will be available in the lobby of the worship center. If you have read the Bible much this would be a great way to get into the habit. And that is what it is- a habit. Not an empty religious exercise mind you, but an act that if we allow to become a habit will make a positive difference in your life I guarantee you!
I also want to make sure you are aware that things are moving forward with the Hope House project. If you remember this is a ministry that would be a transitional home for ladies graduating from programs like Capstone and Bethel Colony of Mercy for women. Acting on expert legal advice we are recommending that we apply for an LLC to form this ministry. This would allow tax deductible gifts for Hope House to be given to Trading Ford , but at the same time shield the church from liability. As it stands right now we will have a plenary meeting to have it presented and discuss it 7 pm in the Worship Center on January 8th. If things go forward for a vote that would occur in the Sunday morning service on January 12th. Along with these dates please be sure to make plans to come out to TFBC movie night Sunday January 5th as we watch “Overcomer”. And the month’s not over- 6pm on January 19th we will have a concert from The Golden Tones. This band plays classic southern gospel that many of you know and love. A love offering will be received that night, not for the band, but rather to benefit Hope House.
In closing, know that I’m excited about what God has in store for us this year. We approach it in faith not knowing all we will face, but rather knowing the one who has all our days in His hands.
With a Shepherd’s Love,Pastor Mike
P.S.Sandy and I thank you, our church family, for your kind expressions of love during this Christmas Season. May God bless you each richly.
