Dear Church Family,
Summer is a season to love and I hope yours is going great. One of the lovable things about summer is family togetherness. From vacations to road trips to possibly a campout- life is more rich and valuable when we share it with people we love. Am I being a little too optimistic? Do smart phones challenge your family meal times? Do we get frustrated with each other, even when we are on a vacation that we paid a lot of money to “enjoy”? Just remember, one of the main parts about relationships – It’s COMMUNICATION! Isn’t it weird, with all the technology we have to keep us connected people can still sit at supper glued to their phone and not talk to the person across the table from them. We need to do ourselves a favor and push our electronic devices back from time to time.
I’m not down on tech, but if we followed that advice I am convinced our relationships would be stronger. Can we apply the same thinking to our relationship with God? How much time do we spend communicating with him? Paul told us to pray without ceasing. Are we anywhere close to that goal? That verse does not mean we spend all day with our heads bowed and hands folded. It means we can call on him through faith anytime anywhere. Just think about it- the creator of everything not only loves us and is willing to save us, but wants to hear when we call out to him. Do we take full advantage of that as we should? I admit I don’t. I pray, and I know that He answers, but why don’t we pray more? As pastor I want us to put more focus talking to God. Starting in August we will have a couple of new tools in our prayer tool box. So, we want to ask the Lord to soften the hearts of our friends and neighbors who don’t know Jesus- right? We want to ask Jesus to save them, right? Our Lord told us that as we follow him we will become fishers of men, so to pray together for the lost we will share the names of our friends and family on prayer cards in a fish bowl. Fishers of men/Fish Bowl, get the connection? Those requests will be listed (first name only) on the TFBC Evangelism list, where we all can pray regularly for salvation.
When salvation comes, then there is celebration! And for those special situations where we want other brothers and sisters praying for needs- fill out a prayer card and drop it in the beautiful wooden prayer box. The staff will be praying over those needs weekly, as well as our Intercessory prayer team. (Would you like to be included on that prayer team, let us know!) In closing let’s be reminded that #1 God answers prayer and #2 It’s impossible to pray too much. As we pray it will be amazing to see how God works. Hey also don’t forget to add a date to your calendar. It’s time for the yearly church cookout and outdoor baptism. (Seaford lake lot at 6005 Goodman Lake Road for an afternoon of food, fun and fellowship. Recreation and fellowship will begin at 3pm. Please bring a side dish, drink, dessert or chips to share. The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, condiments, chili and slaw.) All those interested in baptism, please speak to me in the coming Sundays.
With a Shepherd’s heart,
